Through the Women’s Spaces project, these stories highlight how women, girls, families, and communities are gaining valuable skills and new opportunities for growth, while advancing their right to safe and secure housing.

Story of Change: Velima Kanguha

Velima Kanguha is a young woman and chairperson of her farming group in Starehe, Nairobi, Kenya.

As a farming group, they grow kale and spinach for vulnerable people in their community. Before participating in the Women’s Spaces project, this was the only farming activity she participated in.  

Story of Change: Susan Mugure

Susan attended the Gender, Urban Agriculture and Food System training, facilitated by Rooftops Canada’s partner organization Mazingira Institute in Nairobi, Kenya.

Susan, her farming group, and community are now benefitting from new urban agriculture techniques and producing higher yields of healthy, organic vegetables.
